The drought and wildfires in the western United States are set to continue due to La Nina that remains in the area. According to the Insurance Journal, it is a natural but potent weather event causing the megadrought.
La Nina usually has the worst effects in the winter, which is supposed to be the west’s rainy season, preventing water reservoirs from being replenished. The megadrought caused by this has caused wildfires to be more frequent and intense.
Property owners should be aware of the heightened risk due to droughts and constant climate change. With the cost inflation of services and goods, property insurance plans may not cover as much as they used to. Property owners should reevaluate their current plans to ensure that their properties are fully covered in the event of wildfires in their area.
