It is officially hurricane season in the Atlantic, and the time to prepare for a possible hurricane is now. According to a recent Business Insurance Magazine article, more than 33 million U.S. properties are at risk of hurricane damage for the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season.
When preparing for hurricane season, there are a few basic things you can do to ensure your and your employees’ safety.
- Have emergency supplies ready
It’s a good idea to have an emergency supply of food and water at the office and emergency power sources, like generators, batteries, and flashlights for light. First aid kits should also be available.
- Have a Plan for Evacuation or Stay Home
Have an evacuation plan. Ensure your office is secured upon leaving, and turn off gas, electricity, and water if possible.
- Gather Important Documents
Ensure you have any important documents stored in a safe location or a backup copy that you can access. This includes your property insurance documents.
- Make Sure Your Property Insurance is Up to Date
The best time to ensure your property insurance is current is before a hurricane forms. Ensure your policies cover hurricane and flood damage and that you have purchased enough coverage for your property.
