It’s been a quiet hurricane season so far. In fact, according to an article from Insurance Journal, this has been the quietest start to hurricane season in 25 years. However, business and property owners should still have a plan in place for when the first named storm of the season comes.
NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has some tips on their website on how to prepare if a hurricane could affect your area. First off, property owners should determine their risk. Is their business in a location that could be impacted by a hurricane? If so, the following are steps they can take to ensure their business is ready.
Business owners should have disaster supplies on hand at the office, as well as know their evacuation route. They should also have a written plan ready so employees know what to do. Most importantly, business owners should make sure all their insurances are up to date. If your business is hit by a hurricane, having your liability, property, and flood insurances up to date is a must.
